No Arrests Made Following Machete Attack On Offaly Pensioner

The Garda investigation is continuing

No arrests have been made in the wake of an attack on an elderly man in Clonoghill Upper, outside Birr last Friday. The man, aged in his 70s was attacked with a heavy torch and a machete, receiving cuts to his face following a struggle with the attacker.

The vicious incident took place outside the man’s home when he was tending to his dog. He was brought to Tullamore Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He has since been discharged.

The scene was preserved and forensically examined by Gardaí in the immediate aftermath of the assault, but they are still seeking help from the public to apprehend the Offaly man’s aggressor.

The attack took place between the hours of 19:00pm and 21:30pm on Friday evening, January 30. If you witnessed the attack itself, or noticed any suspicious activity at that time, Gardaí in Birr want to hear from you.
