The New Movies Coming To Tullamore Cinema This Weekend

By Justin Kelly

IMC cinemas have released this weekend’s line-up, and there are two new movies being added to the screens at their Tullamore cinema beside the Bridge Centre.

Foxcatcher, starring Channing Tatum and Steve Carell, and The Theory of Everything, starring British actor Eddie Redmayne, are getting their first airing in Offaly at IMC Tullamore.

Foxcatcher tells the story of John E. du Pont (Carell), a wealthy philanthropist and wrestling enthusiast, who tries to convince the famous American wrestling Schultz brothers (Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo) to join his private wrestling team as coaches. The movie charts the competition and conflict arising between the trio as drugs and power struggles strike ‘Team Foxcatcher’ as it aims for the wrestling World Championships.

The film has enjoyed critical acclaim since its release here on January 9, and Donald Clarke of The Irish Times described it as “a stunning portrayal of psychopathy and moral decadence in the unlikely environment of Olympic wrestling.” The movie earned director Bennett Miller the ‘Best Director’ award at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival where the film debuted.

Foxcatcher is being screened at Tullamore IMC from Friday at 18:05pm and 20:50pm.

Redmayne in his award-winning portrayal of Stephen Hawking
Joining Foxcatcher at Tullamore on Friday night will be The Theory Of Everything, the gripping biopic of scientist Stephen Hawking. Eddie Redmayne recently scooped the ‘Best Actor in Motion Picture Drama’ award at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards for his portrayal of the famous physicist.

The Theory Of Everything begins as a love story between Hawking and his college girlfriend Jane Wilde, played by Felicity Jones. The film then follows their relationship and Hawking’s career as a theoretical physicist through his well-publicised battle with motor neuron disease.

The Theory Of Everything opened in Ireland and the UK on January 1 to critical acclaim. Catherine Shoard of The Guardian remarked: “Redmayne towers: this is an astonishing, genuinely visceral performance which bears comparison with Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot."

The Theory Of Everything will be screened at Tullamore from Friday at 18:15pm and 21:00pm.

Both movies have been tipped for success during awards season in Hollywood, with both Eddie Redmayne and Steve Carell in the running for the ‘Best Actor’ award at this year’s Oscars.
